About This Class
A four week course discussing the directing process starting with show selection through working with actors in a practice rehearsal process. Students will learn how to pick shows that center accessibility and equitability, access materials to learn about the shows they’re interested in, handle an audition and rehearsal room, and work hands-on with actors to practice safe and thoughtful directing.
Who This Class Is For
Beginning directors or those interested in directing. No prerequisites or previous experience required.
What You’ll Learn
After completing this class, you will understand:
- Audition and callback preparation
- How to select successful shows and break them down into easy steps
- How to support your actors and team throughout the whole production process
- How to handle conflict and problems that can arise during a show
- How to handle a tech week into opening night

Cancellation & Refunds
Registration may be cancelled for a full refund any time before the first class. If you attend part of the series but an emergency prevents you from completing it, we can provide a prorated refund for the remaining classes or a credit toward a future Spectrum Stage class equal to the unused portion of your registration fee. Missed individual classes are not refundable. If Spectrum Stage cancels the class series, registered participants will receive a full refund.

Meet Your Instructor
Oscar Quezada (they/he) works as a professional theatre artist in Sacramento. They are an alum of Southern Oregon University and Folsom Lake College having earned their BFA in Stage Direction. With directing, Oscar values an open-minded and detail-oriented approach that makes his teachings approachable and comprehensive.
