Auditions for Horse Girls by Jenny Rachel Weiner, directed by Lily Tanner-Hansen, will be held at Spectrum Stage on Wednesday, July 15 and Thursday, July 16 at 6:30pm.

Actors only need to attend one audition date. There will be no callbacks.

You must be 18 or older to audition. The characters are pre-teens, but this production will cast adult performers only.

About the Play

In Horse Girls, twelve-year-old Ashleigh rules the Lady Jean Ladies, an exclusive South Florida horse club where friendship, status, obsession, and control are braided together with terrifying precision. When the girls learn that Ashleigh’s family stables may be sold and their beloved horses killed for meat, their club meeting spirals into a darkly funny crisis of loyalty, power, and middle-school desperation.

Horse Girls is a one-act dark comedy about pre-teens, obsession, belonging, cruelty, and the specific horror of trying to survive girlhood.

Audition Details & Format

Auditions will be held:

• Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at 6:30pm
• Thursday, July 16, 2026 at 6:30pm

Location: Spectrum Stage, 2424 Castro Way

Actors only need to attend one audition date. There will be no callbacks.

Please bring a headshot and resume. All actors should prepare a monologue.

Actors auditioning for Ashleigh should also prepare a short song and either provide their own backing track or be prepared to sing a cappella.

Audition format will include:

1. Welcome and introductions
2. Prepared monologues
3. Short break
4. Readings from selected scenes
5. Singing for actors auditioning for Ashleigh

Actors who are not singing will be released before the singing portion.

Roles

Ashleigh Whitford (F/12 yrs old)
President of the Lady Jean Ladies. The leader and the most experienced rider in the bunch. All of the girls look up to her, even though she can be horrendous, because there is something dynamic and infectious about her.

Tiffany Gesuvia (F/13 yrs old)
Vice President of the Lady Jean Ladies. Robin’s older sister. ashleigh and tiffany have been best friends since they were born. Tiffany is infinitely jealous of ashleigh—and always one step behind. Although a smart and an excellent rider, she is never seen because ashleigh is always blocking the view.

Robin Gesuvia (F/11 yrs old)
Secretary of the Lady Jean Ladies. An eager, people pleaser. the youngest in the group. tiffany’s younger sister.

Margaret Flanaghan (F/12 yrs old)
Treasurer of the Lady Jean Ladies. Wets the bed sometimes. She loves horses and being a part of this
club because it makes her feel like less like a freak.

Brandi Marshall (F/12 yrs old)
Historian of the Lady Jean Ladies. Isn’t particularly amazing at riding horses, but she loves the animals. She loves taking care of them. She loves watching them run.

Camille Lowenstein (F/13 yrs old)
Looks like she should be in the popular group, but it’s only because she developed boobs early.

Trish Lowenstein (F/13 yrs old)
Camille’s cousin who is in from Mahattan. She is liberal, self-aware, and polite, and was taught to always be a gracious guest.

Casting Note

Spectrum Stage welcomes actors of all gender identities and expressions. Trans, nonbinary, and gender-expansive performers are encouraged to audition!

All actors must be 18 or older. The characters are pre-teens, but this production will cast adult performers only.

Some roles may involve staged intimacy, including a kiss between the actors playing Ashleigh and Margaret. Any staged intimacy will be handled with care and clear communication during the rehearsal process.
